Write and Publish

Write Papers, Articles, and Books

  • Use the Citavi Add-In for Microsoft Word while you write. It's installed automatically with Citavi.
  • For each section, the Add-In shows you the references, quotations, and thoughts that you saved in your Citavi project.
  • Just click to insert your references, quotations, and thoughts in your paper.
  • This lets you focus on your writing while Citavi takes care of the formal requirements. Academic writing was never so easy!

Format Perfectly

  • Citavi automates the citation process. Insert a quotation, and everything is formatted according to the citation style you selected, whether you're using footnotes or in-text citations.
  • All references you cite appear automatically in the bibliography – formatted exactly according to the citation style's specifications.
  • Sometimes you might need to group your bibliography, for example by primary and secondary sources. Citavi sorts the references into sections you define in your project.

Choose from Over 11,000 Citation Styles

  • APA, Chicago, MLA, Turabian, ISO 690 – only five of over 11,000 citation styles Citavi offers. Citation examples make it easier to choose.
  • If a journal or publisher's style is missing, we can create it for you.
  • Personal styles can be created with Citavi's Citation Style Editor. Just find a similar style and customize it to fit your needs.

See the Big Picture

  • Export all quotations and thoughts to a document – with their categories and including a bibliography. This gives you a good overview of how far along you are in your project.
  • Compilations can also be used as a handout in team meetings or for discussions with your advisor.

Create Lists and Annotated Bibliographies

  • Create a quick list of sources by certain criteria – for example, a list of works by a single author.
  • More complex lists are easy, too. Create a list of recommended literature on a particular topic or an annotated bibliography for educational purposes.

Create Lists of Authors, Periodicals, Keywords, etc.

  • Often the same author, journal, or publisher might be spelled differently in different sources. In Citavi's list view you can quickly correct this problem.
  • These lists can also be saved or printed.
