Using Citavi for DBServer with Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Express

Citavi for DBServer requires Microsoft SQL Server (version  2008 or later). If you can't use Citavi for DBSever on your organization's SQL Server or if no SQL Server is available, use Microsoft® SQL Server® 2014 Express. Other SQL servers, such as MySQL are not supported.

Downloading and Extracting Microsoft® SQL Server® 2014 Express

  1. Log in to Windows with an account that has adminstrator rights. (an account without administrator rights that is eleavated by UAC after starting the setup will not work.)
  2. On the Microsoft Homepage click Download. Select the appropriate Setup, for example Express 64BIT\SQLEXPR_x64_ENU.exe, if the Server should be installed in English on a 64-bit system.
  3. Extract the Setup file by double-clicking the downloaded .exe file. The Setup program will create a folder with the same name as the Setup program, for example, SQLEXPR_x64_ENU. As a default this folder is created in the same folder in which you saved the Setup file.
  4. SQL Server Installation center will open after a short delay. Close the window to stop the automatic Setup.

SQL Server Express for Citavi Setup starten

  1. Install Citavi if you have not yet done so. The current Setup can be found at www.citavi.com/download. You do not need to enter a license key to perform the following steps.
  2. In Windows Explorer under Program Files (x86) open the folder \Citavi 5\bin. Double-click the SQL Server Express for Citavi Setup.exe file.

Using the Assistant

  1. Enable the options Install Microsoft SQL Server Express and Configure Windows Firewall. Click Next.
  2. (You've already performed the first three steps listed in this window.) In Step 4 click Browse to select the SETUP.EXE file in the extracted folder containing the installation files for SQL Server Express. Click Open.
  3. Click Next. Accept the license term and click Next.
  4. Enter an Instance name, such as CitaviServer. Click Next to start the installation of SQL Server Express. This can take a few minutes.

After the installation has completed, use the Citavi DBServer Manager for additional options.
